Wordpress is an ideal open-source SEO friendly platform that is easy to install and easy to manage. You can buy a template online or have a Wordpress developer create a custom theme for a reasonable cost.
If you’re taking the opportunity to utilize this powerful platform, ensure you read up on security. Avoid making security mistakes by controlling directory and file permissions, backing up your blog site and following these Wordpress Security guidelines.

There’s a great plugin called All in One SEO Pack - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
Install it and activate it. When you open your posts, you’ll see the All in One SEO Pack options.
If you don’t own Wordtracker or some other keyword selection service, use the following free Firefox plugin to find keyword phrases that apply to your blog post topic. http://labs.wordtracker.com/seo-blogger/
You don’t necessarily need to optimize your post title separately if you are using good keyword phrases in the title and in the beginning of the post body. But controlling the title and description metatags is a good idea if you want to ensure you are optimizing for specific keyword phrases.
To test out what you’re communicating to Search engines, use http://ranks.nl to identify your post keyword density. You want to make sure the keyword phrases you want to optimize for bubble up to the top in the 2-4 keyword phrase densities.
Good luck!
